Through Community Service, Lecturers from Polman Negeri Babel Teach Students of SMK Negeri 1 Kelapa to Process Pineapple Peel Waste
Lecturers at the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic, the leading vocational school in Bangka Belitung, are continuing their efforts to increase environmental awareness and organic waste management skills through their Community Service (PkM) program. Lecturers from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Agricultural Industry held training on eco-enzyme production using pineapple peel waste for students at SMK Negeri 1 Kelapa on Wednesday (June 10, 2026).
The activity involved several lecturers: Lesta, S.P., M.Sc., Riski Meliya Ningsih, S.P., M.Sc., Priestiani, S.P., M.P., Limartaida Siahaan, S.P., M.Sc., Badriyah, S.P., M.Sc., and Yuke Mareta Ariesta S., S.P., M.Sc., and was supported by two students, Ivaldi and Muarto.
When confirmed on Wednesday (June 24, 2026), one of the implementing lecturers, Limartaida Siahaan, S.P., M.Sc., stated that this training aims to improve students' knowledge and skills in processing organic waste into useful products while also raising awareness of the importance of sustainable environmental management in processing organic waste into useful products.
Limartaida stated that pineapple peel waste is a type of organic waste often generated from household activities and fruit processing businesses. If not managed properly, this waste has the potential to cause environmental pollution.
"He continued, 'With a simple fermentation process, pineapple peels can be processed into ecoenzymes, which have various benefits. They can be used as natural cleaners, liquid organic fertilizers, and even as a supporter of more environmentally friendly management.'

In this training, the community service team provided material on organic waste issues, waste management concepts based on the 3R principle (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), and an introduction to ecoenzymes as an alternative use of organic waste that can be easily implemented in the surrounding environment," he admitted.
In addition to theoretical presentations, participants also received a live demonstration of making ecoenzymes from pineapple peels and preparing ingredients, determining the composition of the mixture, and the correct fermentation technique, demonstrated in detail by a team of lecturers.
"Using a hands-on, hands-on learning method, students can understand each stage of the process, learn the function of each ingredient, and learn safe and effective fermentation methods, making the learning experience more engaging," he emphasized.
"Furthermore, the evaluation results of students' understanding of organic waste management and the ecoenzyme production process provide new knowledge, providing basic skills that can be applied independently to achieve an environmentally friendly lifestyle," he said.

Meanwhile, the Principal of SMK Negeri 1 Kelapa, Rizar, S.Si., welcomed and expressed his delight at the presence of the Polma Babel lecturers who shared their knowledge with the students in understanding ecoenzymes. This is beneficial for increasing their knowledge of how to convert organic waste into useful products and for implementing green living principles in everyday life," he concluded.
