Through Community Service, Lecturers at Polman Negeri Babel Encourage Interest in Mechanical Engineering Among Vocational School Students
The CADCAM Laboratory at the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Babel) was a different atmosphere on Thursday (January 15, 2026). Several students from SMK Negeri 2 Sungailiat were enthusiastically participating in the Autodesk Inventor Basic Training as part of the Engineering Education Movement initiated by Polman Babel lecturers.
This community service activity provided a hands-on learning platform for vocational school students to explore the world of engineering design and mechanical engineering, which is typically found in industrial settings and vocational colleges.
A total of 18 students participated in the training, supervised by teachers and third-semester Polman Babel students involved in the Independent Learning Campus (MBKM) program, creating interactive learning environments and a positive learning environment with the participants.
Two Polman Babel lecturers, Herwandi, Ph.D., and Adhe Anggry, M.T., served as resource persons. The material was presented in stages, from understanding basic concepts to practicing the use of Autodesk Inventor software.

During the presentation, Herwandi, Ph.D., explained a systematic engineering design method, encompassing the stages of planning, conceptualizing, designing, and finalizing the design. "This approach is introduced so that students become accustomed to systematic thinking when solving engineering problems," he said.
Herwandi explained that this training is expected to provide students with the initial foundation to develop their design skills in school, while also fostering interest in continuing their studies in engineering.
"Remember, never give up learning. The important thing is to have the intention, and what you can't do becomes a habit," he explained.

Meanwhile, Adhe Anggry, M.T., emphasized the importance of understanding engineering design and mechanical design concepts. He also guided participants through the basic functions of Autodesk Inventor, which is widely used in the design process of machine components.
According to Adhe, "Introducing design software from vocational school will help students adapt more quickly to learning at vocational colleges and improve their readiness for technological developments in the manufacturing industry," he added.
Meanwhile, Luchy Sandra, a teacher at SMK Negeri 2 Sungailiat, stated that the training provided in this activity "broadens students' insights into the world of engineering studies, a world they have not previously been exposed to directly."
