Bangka Belitung State Polytechnic Lecturers' Community Service Encourages Matras Tourism Awareness Group to Manage Tourist Destination Professionally
A Community Service (PkM) team from the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Babel) conducted a series of training sessions for the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) of Matras Tourism Village, Sungailiat District, Bangka Regency. The training focused on strengthening organizational governance, drafting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and developing technology-based digital promotion strategies to support professional tourism village management.
This Polman Babel faculty community service program was supported by the Directorate of Research and Community Service under the Directorate General of Research and Development (Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology). The team included Sari Mubaroh, M.Pd., Indah Riezky Pratiwi, M.Pd., and Linda Fujiyanti, M.T.I., alongside eight students from the Informatics and Business Department.
PkM Team Leader Sari Mubaroh, M.Pd., explained that the first session—held on Sunday, June 28, 2026—focused on governance management and SOP drafting for the Matras Tourism Village Pokdarwis. "The training aimed to equip Pokdarwis administrators with an understanding of organizational governance, role allocation based on work areas, and organizational administration, as well as the drafting of SOPs to serve as guidelines for tourism services," she stated.
Sari highlighted that the training went beyond mere material presentation; it included practical exercises in drafting SOP documents to be implemented across the five main divisions of the Pokdarwis: Tourism Attractions, Tourism Services, Promotion and Digital Media, Environment and Cleanliness, and Partnerships and Business Development.
"These SOP documents are expected to improve service quality while strengthening the Pokdarwis institution in its role as the manager of the tourism destination," she said.

To that end, an activity focused on tourism information management and digital content development was held on Sunday (July 12, 2026). It emphasized enhancing participants' skills in managing destination information, utilizing social media for promotion, and creating engaging, informative digital content," he explained.
"Participants were introduced to fundamental techniques ranging from destination photography, short video production, and writing promotional captions to strategies for building a digital identity for Matras Tourism Village. These skills help expand promotional reach while boosting tourist appeal for destinations in Bangka Belitung," he added.
Furthermore, developing a tourism village requires more than just relying on natural potential; a destination's success also hinges on the quality of organizational management, tourism services, and the ability to leverage digital technology.
"Through this training, we aim to build the capacity of the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) so they can manage the destination independently, professionally, and sustainably," he stated.
The empowerment program will continue with 'English for Local Guides' training—scheduled for Sunday (July 19, 2026)—designed to improve the English communication skills of Pokdarwis members, enabling them to serve international tourists with confidence and professionalism.
"Learning English is valuable for welcoming tourists, introducing attractions, explaining local culture, providing destination information, and answering tourist inquiries using simple, practical English," he emphasized.
Meanwhile, Andika Avin, Head of the Matras Tourism Village Pokdarwis, noted that the guidance provided by the Polman Babel Community Service (PkM) team—through various training sessions—has yielded significant benefits in enhancing human resource capacity, organizational governance, tourism services, and digital promotion.
"We have been greatly assisted by the guidance provided in drafting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), developing the Matras Tourism Village website, and improving digital promotion capabilities. This serves as a vital asset in realizing sustainable tourism development in Bangka Belitung," Andika concluded.
