To Prevent Digital Financial Crime, OJK Bangka Belitung Urges New Students at Polman Negeri Babel to Wisely Protect Personal Data

The Head of the Bangka Belitung Islands Province OJK, Eko Wijaya, along with his team, posed for a photo with the Deputy Director III of Bangka Belitung State Polytechnic (Polman Negeri Bangka Belitung), lecturers, and administrative staff from the Academic, Student Affairs, and Cooperation Division (BAKK).

The Financial Services Authority (OJK) of Bangka Belitung Islands Province participated in the New Student Campus Life Introduction (PPKMB) program at the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Babel) by conducting an outreach session on consumer protection in the financial services sector at the campus auditorium on Thursday (August 6, 2026).

The event was attended by the Head of OJK Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Eko Wijaya, and his team, who were welcomed by the Deputy Director III of Polman Babel—Bangka Belitung's premier vocational campus—alongside lecturers and administrative staff from the Academic, Student Affairs, and Cooperation Division (BAKK).

In his opening remarks, Eko Wijaya explained that the OJK's presence on campus reflected its commitment to the younger generation, aiming to ensure they have a solid understanding of the importance of safeguarding personal data and recognizing the various risks associated with the digital financial services sector.

Eko urged new students not to carelessly share personal data with irresponsible parties, noting that the misuse of personal data frequently occurs through illegal online lending apps and online gambling platforms—activities that can lead to financial loss and compromise individual privacy.

"Polman Babel students must not share personal data indiscriminately; you must avoid illegal online loans and online gambling, as both can have detrimental effects on your personal data security and your future," he stated.

Furthermore, students need to understand the various modes of fraud perpetrated in the name of companies or financial service institutions—often via illegal websites or applications—and must be able to distinguish between legal financial services and illegal ones that could cause financial loss," she added.

Meanwhile, OJK speaker Veralina explained that the Financial Services Authority (OJK) is an independent state institution—established under Law Number 21 of 2011—tasked with regulating, supervising, and protecting all activities within the financial services sector. This mandate covers banking, capital markets, non-bank financial industries (such as insurance and pension funds), and financial technology (fintech) services, all conducted with transparency, accountability, and integrity," she emphasized.

In her presentation, Veralina introduced various OJK services, such as the Consumer Protection Portal Application (APPK)—a channel for submitting consumer complaints—and the Financial Information Service System (SLIK). She noted that SLIK provides debtor credit history information, which can be requested by individual debtors, the heirs of deceased debtors (subject to specific regulations), or business entities, provided they submit the required documentation," she stated.

Additionally, debtor information may be requested by various parties in accordance with statutory regulations—including banks, financing companies, fintech firms, cooperatives, and consumers (for loan applications or monitoring)—as well as by Credit Information Management Institutions in the exercise of their duties and authority.

Moreover, students were briefed on the procedures for obtaining iDeb information, either through online services or via walk-in visits to the nearest OJK office. Once registration is complete and staff have verified that all documents are complete and valid, the iDeb report is automatically sent to the debtor's email address," she asserted. "In her closing remarks, Vera from the OJK (Financial Services Authority) of Bangka Belitung Islands Province expressed hope that new students at Polman Babel would possess better financial literacy and inclusion, be capable of safeguarding their personal data, and avoid various forms of digital financial crime—such as illegal online loans, online gambling, and scams disguised as investments or financial services."
