MSME Akhliya Snacks Receives Three Production Machines from Polman Negeri Babel via the PKM Program
The Community Service team from the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Negeri Babel), together with students and the MSME Akhliya Snacks, have collaborated to introduce appropriate technology aimed at enhancing production capacity and efficiency.
In an effort to strengthen the local economy, lecturers from the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Negeri Babel) conducted a community service activity by implementing appropriate technology for the MSME "Akhliya Snacks" in Air Ruai Village, Pemali District, Bangka Regency, on Thursday (July 23, 2026).
This initiative involved Polman Negeri Babel lecturers Yudi Oktriadi, M.Eng., Yuke Mareta Ariesta Sandra, M.Si., and Yuliyanto, M.T., alongside students Ridho Alamsyah and Daffa Farras Razzan, aiming to boost the production capacity and efficiency of Akhliya Snacks.
When asked for details on Thursday (July 30, 2026), the Community Service (PKM) team leader, Yudi Oktriadi, M.Eng., explained that the equipment provided included a fish grinder, a plastic packaging machine (continuous sealer), and an oil spinner. "All of these are expected to help the partner overcome production obstacles they have faced while simultaneously improving the quality and competitiveness of their products," he said.
The key component, the grinder, has a production capacity of approximately 30–40 kilograms per hour, powered by a 5.5 kW gasoline engine operating at 150 rpm; it can be used to grind various ingredients, such as meat, fish, sweet potatoes, and grains. Meanwhile, the continuous sealer packaging machine operates at a speed of 0–12 meters per minute with a power output of 500 Watts and a temperature range of 0–300 degrees Celsius, allowing for a continuous and more hygienic packaging process.
"As for the oil spinner, it has a capacity of approximately 5 kilograms per batch and is powered by a 1/2 HP (375 Watt) motor; it is used to reduce excess oil content in the products after frying," he stated.
Meanwhile, Yuliyanto, M.T., stated that field observations revealed three main challenges facing the partner regarding production: the fish-grinding process still relies on a chopper with a capacity of only about 2 liters—making the ingredient-processing stage inefficient and time-consuming—and the plastic packaging equipment has limited capacity, which slows down the final packaging process.
"Furthermore," he added, "the oil-draining process after frying still uses parchment paper, which is ineffective at absorbing oil; this can result in high residual oil content, potentially accelerating mold growth and reducing the product's shelf life."
Yuliyanto highlighted that prior to the implementation of this appropriate technology, Akhliya Snacks' production capacity was only 5–7.5 kilograms per day—insufficient to meet steadily rising market demand. He emphasized that the introduction of the three new machines is expected to boost production capacity while simultaneously accelerating the partner's workflow.
"In addition to providing production equipment, this community service initiative includes business management guidance and training on financial bookkeeping and small business management. It also involves providing business banners and product display racks to help strengthen the partner's business identity and visual appeal. Notably, due to time constraints amidst their busy daily production schedules, the partner was unable to attend the full business management training; instead, they were provided with a simple bookkeeping module for independent study," he said.
Yuliyanto stated that the implementation of appropriate technology at the MSME Akhliya Snacks has positively impacted production capacity and efficiency; three fish-grinding units (each with a capacity of 30–40 kilograms per hour), a continuous plastic packaging machine, and an oil-draining machine were successfully fabricated, handed over, and accompanied by operational training for the partner.
"Furthermore, business management guidance—provided through training on financial bookkeeping and small business management, alongside the provision of business banners and product display racks—has encouraged the partner to begin routinely recording transactions while simultaneously strengthening their business identity," he explained.
"We extend our gratitude to the Directorate of Research, Technology, and Community Service under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology for the funding support provided through the Community Service Program—specifically the Community-Based Empowerment scheme—for the 2026 fiscal year," he added.
Heliya, the owner of Akhliya Snacks, expressed that she was greatly assisted by the support provided by the lecturer team from the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Negeri Babel). She noted that the various production machines would be utilized to the fullest to support daily business operations and drive improvements in both product quality and business capacity.
