Lecturer from State Polytechnic of Bangka Belitung Visits Schools in Bangka Regency to Equip Teachers with STEM Digital Learning Media Skills

Lecturers from Polman Babel pose for a photo with representatives from SMA Harapan Sungailiat as part of an initiative to strengthen teachers' competencies in utilizing STEM-based digital learning media.

Lecturers from the Manufacturing Design Engineering Technology (TRPM) study program at the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Babel) engaged with several schools in Bangka Regency through a training program on using digital learning media based on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), held from July 7 to July 21, 2026.

The Polman Babel Community Service (PKM) team comprised lecturers from the TRPM and Electronics (Diploma III) study programs: Stevanus Trionanda, M.Pd., Ilham Nur Dimas Yahya, M.T., Subkhan, M.T., Elisa Mayang Sari, M.Pd., and Charlotha, M.Tr.T. Additionally, two sixth-semester TRPM students—Dimas Andriansyah and Kemas Afif Adestra—participated in the activities.

Stevanus Trionanda, M.Pd., the head of the Polman Babel PKM team, stated on Friday (July 24, 2026), that the training focused on introducing digital learning media to support the implementation of the STEM approach in schools. He noted that this approach fosters a learning process that goes beyond mere content delivery; it aims to enhance creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, while also equipping students to navigate the challenges of technological advancement.

"The initiative directly targeted several schools—SMA Harapan Sungailiat, SMP Maria Goretti Sungailiat, SMP St. Yosef Belinyu, and SMA Negeri 1 Merawang—to support the potential for developing digital learning methods tailored to the specific characteristics of each school and its students," he said.

Furthermore, the teachers and school administrators welcomed the team openly; the various suggestions and feedback provided by the teachers served as valuable input for the team to continuously evaluate and refine the program.

"The outcome is that the team is further refining its approach and delving deeper into STEM-based learning innovations," he explained.

Stevanus noted that gaining firsthand insight into the school's learning conditions and needs—through direct interaction with teachers—opened up discussions regarding the challenges of implementing educational technology, as well as opportunities to create learning methods that are more engaging, contextual, and relevant to students' needs.

Furthermore, higher education institutions play a role that extends beyond the development of science and technology; they can also contribute through mentoring, knowledge transfer, and the development of learning innovations applicable within the school environment.

Meanwhile, Lintje Adelfina, S.E., Principal of SMAS Harapan Sungailiat, expressed her gratitude for the visit and the activities conducted by the Polman Babel lecturers. She noted that the initiative provided valuable insights and served as a source of inspiration for the school to develop learning approaches that are more transformative, interactive, and effective in enhancing student capabilities.

It is hoped that the skills training on STEM-based digital learning media will not end with this single visit but will mark the beginning of an ongoing partnership between Polman Babel and the school, ultimately fostering innovative learning experiences and preparing students to meet the demands of the digital era.
