Exploring Innovation Potential, Babel State Polman and Babel Ministry of Law and Human Rights Hold Patent Training for Students and Lecturers
Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Babel) together with the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Bangka Belitung Islands Regional Office held a patent information search event and patent drafting training on Tuesday (27/08/2024).
This activity aims to increase participants' understanding and capacity in the field of intellectual property, especially in terms of patent protection.

This event was opened by the Deputy Director II of Polman Babel, Muhammad Subhan, M.T., and the Head of the Babel Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office, Drs. Harun Sulianto, Bc.IP., S.H., M.H., in the Joint Lecture Building, second floor.
Attended by 60 participants consisting of students and lecturers, this activity emphasized the importance of protecting intellectual property as a basis for developing innovation and creativity in academic and industrial environments.

In his speech, Harun Sulianto revealed that this activity was carried out in accordance with Law no. 13 of 2016 concerning Patents and Minister of Law and Human Rights Regulation no. 30 of 2018, which aims to increase public understanding regarding patent protection.
"We are committed to being more active in carrying out outreach and providing assistance in regions to strengthen knowledge about intellectual property," explained Harun.
Furthermore, Harun explained the importance of intellectual property as a result of creativity and innovation which has economic value. This intellectual property is divided into two categories, namely Communal and Personal.

Communal intellectual property includes Genetic Resources (SDG), Potential Geographical Indications (PIG), Traditional Cultural Expressions (EBT), and Traditional Knowledge (PT), while the Personal category includes Integrated Circuit Layout Design, Trade Secrets, Industrial Design, Copyright , Brands, and Patents.
"It is hoped that this training can improve the ability of researchers to describe and protect the results of their innovations, as well as increase awareness of the importance of patent protection among academics and industrial practitioners," added Harun.

Deputy Director II, Muhammad Subhan, M.T., also emphasized that this event is expected to be able to equip students and lecturers with better skills in managing their intellectual property.
"We hope that the participants can take home in-depth and applicable knowledge, which will encourage them to continue to innovate and make real contributions to society," he concluded.
