Morning and Evening Roll Calls Have Become a Routine for Polman Negeri Babel Students at the Mechanic's Workshop
Students at the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Babel) now have a routine every time they attend lectures in the mechanical workshop building. Learning activities in the workshop must begin and end with roll call, both in the morning and afternoon.
These roll calls are led alternately by lecturers and Educational Laboratory Attendants (PLP). The goal is clear: to maintain student discipline throughout the lectures.
When contacted on Friday (August 22, 2025), the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, Dr. Ilham Ary Wahyudie, M.T., explained that this roll call regulation also serves as a means to record student attendance. "With roll call, we can determine who is on time and who is not," he explained.
Furthermore, Ilham emphasized that this policy aligns with Polman Babel's academic regulations, ensuring that students are accustomed to discipline from the start of their studies, as they will eventually face the industrial world, which also has strict regulations.
"Discipline is a work culture in the industry." "So, this roll call is not just a formality, but a form of habituation for students so they are ready to enter the world of work after graduation," he said.

Furthermore, Safety Talk is crucial because it serves as a means to remind students of potential hazards, increase awareness and discipline in implementing OHS, while simultaneously preventing accidents and occupational diseases," he said.
In fact, students are reminded to always use personal protective equipment, follow safe work procedures, and maintain an orderly and safe work environment. This must be done routinely and foster a safe work culture, increase productivity, and ensure compliance with OHS regulations," he concluded.
Similarly, one of the lecturers monitoring the roll call, Zaldy Suzen Sirwansyah, M.T., considered this activity very beneficial as a means of strengthening character and building a sense of togetherness among students.
"Roll call is not just about attendance, but also fosters a sense of responsibility, teaches respect for time, rules, and togetherness," he said.
Meanwhile, Agus Wanto, a representative of the PLP (Regional Leadership Development Program), stated that his team is responsible for monitoring roll call every afternoon and checking student attendance, adding that there is no tolerance for students who are absent without a written explanation as stipulated in academic regulations.
"If anyone violates academic regulations, there will certainly be sanctions. If necessary, we will even summon the parents of students found to be frequently absent without an excuse," Agus emphasized.
