From Campus to Village, Babel State Polman Presents Oil Draining Machine for Tempe Craftsmen
As part of the community service program, lecturers and students from the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Babel) initiated the application of appropriate technology for a group of tempeh chip craftsmen in Karya Makmur Village, Pemali District, Friday (15/11/2024)
By bringing innovation in the form of an oil draining machine, the service team hopes to help improve the quality and production capacity of tempeh chips produced by the Pelangi Tempe Chips Craftsman Group.
This program was attended by a team of lecturers consisting of Ariyanto, M.T., Sugiyarto, M.T., and Eko Yudo, M.T., along with two students, Santa and Wahyudi, who were also involved in the machine implementation process. The oil draining machine they carry is specifically designed to reduce the oil content in tempeh chips, resulting in a product that is crispier and lasts longer.
Ariyanto, M.T., chairman of this service program, said that this initiative is a concrete form of Polman Babel's efforts to support the development of the small and medium enterprise sector in Bangka Belitung.
"We want to have a direct impact on society, especially in terms of improving the quality of local products so they can compete in the wider market," he said.
According to Ariyanto, this oil draining machine is the result of research designed according to the needs of craftsmen. He explained that this machine not only helps in the processing process, but also increases the selling value of the tempeh chips produced.
"With lower oil content, these tempeh chips are healthier and last longer, so they have added value in the market," he added.
Not only that, Ariyanto also suggested that craftsmen groups continue to follow technological developments relevant to the snack industry. He said that the use of technology not only helps in production, but also in time and cost efficiency.
"We hope this technology can help craftsmen to be more productive and efficient," said Ariyanto.
Meanwhile, Rominah, head of the Pelangi Tempe Chips Craftsmen Group, expressed her hopes for the impact of using this oil draining machine. According to him, this machine can simplify the production process while improving the quality of tempeh chips products.
"With this machine, the tempeh chips we produce will be crispier and will be liked by consumers," he said.
Rominah also appreciates the attention and assistance from Polman Babel and hopes that this collaboration can continue. "We hope that the campus can continue to accompany us, especially in terms of training and product development to make it more competitive," he added.
Apart from that, he suggested to lecturers to organize further training related to machine maintenance so that the machines continue to function optimally in the long term. "We want the craftsmen to be independent in operating and maintaining this machine," said Rominah.
It is hoped that this service program can be an example of positive synergy between educational institutions and the community in developing the local economy.
With technological support from Polman Babel, the group of tempeh chip craftsmen in Karya Makmur Village is optimistic that they can increase the competitiveness of their products in the market.
