Mechanical Engineering Students from Polman Negeri Babel Participate in Final Project Defense and Internship
The academic atmosphere within the Mechanical Engineering Department at the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Babel) was enlivened by a week-long series of Final Project and Internship presentations. These events constitute a crucial milestone that students must complete before qualifying for graduation and participating in the commencement ceremony.
Students from various study programs within the Mechanical Engineering Department took part in these sessions. A total of 57 students from the Applied Bachelor’s Program in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering presented their best work during the Final Project defense. Additionally, approximately 50 students from the Diploma III Program in Mechanical Design Engineering and 58 students from the Diploma III Program in Machine Maintenance and Repair presented their projects before a panel of examiners.

In parallel with the final project defenses, 14 students from the Applied Bachelor’s Program in Manufacturing Design Engineering Technology (TRPM) participated in Internship presentations, serving as an academic review of the learning experiences gained during their Field Work Practices (PKL) at various industry partner companies.
Students were observed not only presenting their project results and internship reports but also undergoing assessments of their analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills as they explained the work processes and innovations developed during their vocational studies.
When asked for comment on Tuesday (July 15, 2026), Idiar, M.T., Head of the Applied Bachelor’s Study Program in Manufacturing Design Engineering Technology (TRPM), explained that the defense is a mandatory requirement for graduation. It serves to verify the competencies students have acquired throughout their studies, ensuring they are fully tested on the knowledge and skills they have gained—whether through their final projects or their internships.

Consequently, the internship defense plays a crucial role, as students must demonstrate a solid understanding of the experience gained during their industrial field placements. They are required to present these experiences and defend them from a technical and academic perspective before a panel of examiners.
"Students must be able to articulate the capabilities, skills, and ideas they developed while working on their final projects or during their field placements. All of this forms part of the competency assessment required for them to be declared graduates," he explained.
Idiar added that the academic review sessions are an annual routine at Polman Negeri Babel; as part of efforts to maintain graduate quality and ensure a rigorous evaluation process, the campus verifies that every student possesses competencies aligned with the needs of the business and industrial sectors.
"With the completion of these Final Project and Internship reviews, the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic—the region's premier vocational institution—continues to produce high-quality graduates ready to contribute to industrial development both within Bangka Belitung and beyond," he concluded.
