Through Infinis Goes to School, HMJ Polman Negeri Babel Introduces AI to Students of SMK Negeri 1 Simpang Katis
The Informatics and Business Student Association (HMJ) of the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic held an Infinis Goes to School event at SMK Negeri 1 Simpang Katis on Wednesday, April 22, 2024.
The 48 students who attended appeared relaxed but engaged, listening intently to the explanations and participating in discussions with fellow students about the introduction to artificial intelligence (AI).
The HMJ students were accompanied by lecturers from the TRPL Study Program, Riki Afriansyah, Hendrik Ali, Linda Fujiyanti, Redi Alamsyah, and Putri Armelia Prayesi. The lecturers' presence was intended to help the students deliver the material more clearly and easily.
When met on Thursday (April 23, 2026), Bayu Safyndra, Head of the Informatics and Business Student Association (HMJ) in Polman Babel, stated that this activity aims to introduce AI technology because the students' majors are closely related to coding or programming applications. "So, students understand how AI can be used in coding, not just by knowing the name," he said.
In fact, this material reminds students not to use AI instantly, such as simply copying and pasting without understanding, but to still think and comprehend what they are doing.
"AI is just a tool, so it still needs to be studied and understood. Don't just use it without understanding its purpose," he added.
Bayu further advised students to continue learning the basics of coding manually. "This will strengthen their thinking and logic skills," he said.
He believes the students' abilities are quite good, but they need to be continuously trained and improved. Activities like this are also expected to help students determine the choices they need.
"Besides sharing knowledge, this activity also serves as a way to introduce campuses to students who wish to continue their education after graduating from vocational high school (SMK Negeri 1 Simpang Katis)," he continued.

Meanwhile, Aidilia Fitriyanti, a teacher at SMK Negeri 1 Simpang Katis, expressed her satisfaction with this activity because the material presented was highly relevant to students' current needs.
"The children have become more aware that technology is not just for use, but can also help them learn better," she explained.
Through this activity, it is hoped that students will become more enthusiastic about learning and prepared for future technological developments.
Furthermore, similar activities can be carried out continuously, as they are considered to be able to increase students' enthusiasm for learning at school and help them determine their educational direction after graduation," she continued.
