Highlighting the Issue of Coastal Erosion, the Babel State Polytechnic Student Executive Board Invites Students to Speak Up Through a Poster Competition
The Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Babel) held a poster competition as part of its internal "Students-e" program series. The event, which focused on the issue of coastal abrasion in the area behind the campus, took place on the third floor of the Joint Lecture Building on Tuesday (October 13, 2026).
Ten Polman Babel students participated in the competition, while eight new students—who were part of the organizing committee—also took part to help bring the BEM's initiative to life.
When interviewed, Bintang, the President of BEM Polman Babel, explained that the idea for the poster competition stemmed from concerns regarding tin mining activities in the waters behind the campus. "This inspired the BEM to encourage students to express their concerns through creative and informative visual works," he stated.

Furthermore, the issue of coastal erosion requires attention to ensure it remains a topic of ongoing discussion and to spur concern and follow-up actions from relevant parties," he added.
He continued by noting that the Polman Babel Student Executive Board (BEM) aims to use this competition as a platform to highlight this concerning situation, with the ultimate goal of fostering a campus environment that is comfortable and safe for students and the entire academic community.
"Beyond addressing environmental issues, the poster competition serves to hone students' skills in idea development and creative thinking, while also deepening their awareness of conditions in the area surrounding the campus," he acknowledged.
"As for the process, the winning student entries will be showcased on social media, and the winners will receive trophies and souvenirs in recognition of their creativity and participation in the internal Polman Babel 'Students-e' competition," Bintang concluded.
