Exploring Student Potential, UKBI English Speech Competition 2024 Enlivens Babel State Polman E-Students
UKM UKBI English Polman Babel successfully held a speech competition in English entitled UKBI English Speech Competition 2024 on Thursday (17/10/2024).
This competition was part of Student-E activities held in the Joint Lecture Building, Theory Room, and was attended by 26 students who were enthusiastic about showing their English language skills.
From this competition, Abdillah Zahid At-Taqiy won 1st place, followed by Agung Sopian as 2nd place, and Royan Agusthian Nugraha in 3rd place. Adinda Islamaya was named Best Speaker with an impressive performance. The winners not only take home trophies, but also motivation to continue developing their abilities.
Shanty Dwi Krishnaningsih, M.Hum., as UKBI English UKM Advisor, expressed his appreciation to all participants. "In my opinion, the results achieved were not optimal because I saw that there was actually extraordinary potential. However, many participants lacked preparation so their performance was not optimal," he said.
Shanty hopes that this competition will encourage students to continue practicing their English skills.
It is also hoped that this competition can erode the stigma that English is difficult. I am quite satisfied with the number of participants who participated this time. "Even though many students still find English a big challenge, their enthusiasm is very good," added Shanty.
He emphasized the importance of preparation in public speaking. Preparation is key. "If you don't prepare, your self-confidence will definitely not appear, and this will affect your performance when performing," said Shanty.
He also added that even though he was confident, feelings of nervousness could come and destroy the preparations that had been made.
Shanty suggested that students continue to practice, because English language skills are skills that need to be used.
“English is like a skill, the more often you use it, the more skilled you become. "Make English a part of your daily life, so you can get used to it," he explained.
Through this competition, Shanty hopes that in the future more students will have the courage to appear and participate in various events, including English speech competitions. "Don't be afraid to take part in competitions, opportunities like this are very valuable for honing your skills," he concluded.
With the UKBI English Speech Competition 2024, Polman Babel has succeeded in creating an environment that supports the development of English language skills for its students, while providing valuable experience in public speaking.
"This activity not only strengthens relationships between students, but also inspires them to be more confident in speaking English, as a preparation for achieving achievements in the future," he said.
