Know the Law, Avoid Punishment: Bangka District Attorney’s Office Equips Bangka Belitung State Polytechnic Students with an Understanding of the Law and Social Media Ethics
To foster legal awareness among university students—aiming to cultivate a generation that is law-abiding and prudent in its use of digital technology—the Bangka District Attorney’s Office held a legal outreach session for students of the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic. The event, themed "Know the Law, Avoid Legal Penalties," took place on the second floor of the Joint Lecture Building on Tuesday (October 27, 2026).
Approximately 60 students participated, showing a keen interest in understanding the law and its application in daily life, with a focus on legal compliance, legal awareness, and ethical conduct when using social media.
Ahmad Muzayyin, S.H., Head of the Intelligence Section at the Bangka District Attorney’s Office, explained that students need a deep understanding of the law to avoid violations that could lead to sanctions under existing legislation.

Ahmad urged the students to consistently adhere to applicable regulations and encouraged them to seek consultation whenever they require further clarification on legal matters.
" It is essential to have a thorough understanding of the law so that one does not run into legal trouble and remains fully aware of the consequences of any potential violations," he added.
Meanwhile, the speaker from the Bangka District Attorney's Office, Muhammad Hafidz Pangku, S.H., encouraged students from the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Babel) to enhance their legal awareness and practice ethical behavior on social media. He highlighted several critical areas—such as personal data protection, defamation, and the dissemination of false information or hoaxes—with reference to the Law on Information and Electronic Transactions (UU ITE), including the amendments introduced by Law Number 1 of 2024.
He further explained that spreading unverified information can lead to misunderstandings, trigger unrest, and even disrupt public order. Students are therefore expected to act more responsibly when creating or sharing content in the digital space.
He emphasized the importance of the "filter before you share" principle: verifying the source of information, checking the accuracy of facts, evaluating the content of the message, and exercising wisdom before passing it on to others.
" Students must be more discerning in their use of social media and ensure that any information they receive is verified, so as to avoid negative consequences for themselves or others," he stated.

As the session progressed, a discussion and Q&A segment allowed students to ask questions and receive direct explanations from the speakers regarding various legal issues relevant to daily life and social media activity. The Bangka District Attorney’s Office also provided prizes for the participants," he noted.
In his closing remarks, a representative from the Bangka District Attorney’s Office expressed deep gratitude to the management of Polman Babel for providing the opportunity to deliver a legal awareness presentation, which is intended to be beneficial both within and beyond the campus environment," he concluded.
