SUNGAILIAT_POLMANBABEL. After being delayed for several years due to the pandemic, now the student championship event is being held again in the city of Padang, West Sumatra.
Yes a national event for sports-loving students will compete at the XVII National Student Sports Week (POMNAS) in 2022 from 17-26 November 2022.
Student representatives of the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Babel) who are members of the delegation of the Babel Indonesian Student Sports Advisory Board (BAPOMI) are also ready to compete and compete at this year's POMNAS.
Head of Academic and Student Subdivision as well as Polman Babel official, Zanu Saputra said Polman Babel sent four selected sports branches and medal winners at the Polytechnic Porseni a few months ago.
"The students we sent to represent Babel are students who won in Porseni, we recommend them to represent BAPOMI," said Zanu, Saturday (19/11/2022).
According to Zanu, the students recommended by Polman Babel were ready to compete, both physically and mentally as well as during the training process, which had been carried out by the athletes.
The student is Afifah Nurhasanah in the rock climbing branch who won two gold medals in the Indonesian Polytechnic Porseni XIII championship, Abde Fattahwa in the karate branch and Fadel Ramiro in the athletics branch who is also a medalist in Porseni.
Apart from competing in the singles event, two Polman Babel students also represented BAPOMI in volleyball joining other students from Bangka Belitung.
"This is the first time BAPOMI Bangka Belitung has sent team sports, one of which is volleyball, 2 Babel Polman students are participating in the team branch," said Zanu.
The Bangka Belitung Polman students who took part in the POMNAS championship did not carry the name of the university, but the name of the Bangka Belitung Islands Province which is part of BAPOMI Babel.
Zanu hopes that the Bangka Belitung Polman students will be able to give Bangka Belitung a champion so that they can carry the good name of Polman Babel as well, even though the challenges are very tough because those who participate in POMNAS are national athletes whose abilities are undoubted.
"This is a national event, athletes who participate can become PON athletes, Sea Game athletes with student status, so if an athlete from Polman Babel enters the semi-finals, that is an extraordinary achievement," he said.
One of the Polman Babel athletes in the karate branch, Abde Fattahwa said he was ready to compete in the 2022 POMNAS XVII event representing Bangka Belitung, Abde's departure with rock climbing athlete Afifah to Padang on November 20, 2022.
This fifth semester student of the Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Study Program took part in the kumite under 84 kg karate branch at POMNAS 2022 and has participated in many championships and pursued karate since junior high school to studying at Polman Babel.
In 2022, Abde has participated in the Polytechnic Porseni and won a bronze medal, Babel Provincial Championship won 1st place, 5th Forki Cup championship with two general categories and students won 1st place.
Capitalized on his competitive experience and achievements, Abde was selected from Polman Babel students to represent the Bangka Belitung Islands Province along with other athletes at this year's POMNAS championship.
"Learning from experience, in national events regional athletes like Babel must put more pressure on the mentality of competing, for the physical training of Babel's student athletes it is now routine and extraordinary," said Abde when asked about his readiness to compete.
"What I have to prepare now is mentally because what is faced by student athletes at the national level, is much harder to train and compete in," he added.
Abde, who has also participated in pre-PON, will target the POMNAS championship to enter the semi-finals and hopes that other athletes in Bangka Belitung will also bring medals.
"To enter the semi-finals is extraordinary because the competition is quite tight. I hope the Bangka Belitung athletes can bring the name of their region or university to good name," said Abde.
Meanwhile, Deputy Director III for Student Affairs and Cooperation for the Babel State Polman, Eko Sulistyo said students consisting of several Bangka Belitung tertiary institutions would compete in the POMNAS XVII Championship on 17-26 November 2022 in Padang, West Sumatra.
About 43 student athletes who are members of BAPOMI Bangka Belitung from various sports.
"Polman Babel sent five students to represent the Province of Bangka Belitung under the coordination of BAPOMI," said Eko.
Eko wished the students a good time competing, and to bring the good name of Bangka Belitung because in this championship it is no longer bringing each university but has brought the region so that cohesiveness must be maintained.
