Visiting OJK and IDX, Applied Bachelor Students in Digital Business from Polman Negeri Babel Deepen Their Understanding of Financial and Capital Market Literacy

The joint visit by the Polman Negeri Babel delegation and representatives from the OJK and IDX Bangka Belitung provided students with valuable experience and insights into the worlds of finance, investment, and career opportunities.

Students from the Digital Business Applied Bachelor’s program at the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Negeri Babel) undertook an academic visit to the Financial Services Authority (OJK) of Bangka Belitung Islands Province and the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) Bangka Belitung Representative Office on Monday (July 27, 2026).

The group of 30 students was accompanied by two lecturers from the Digital Business program—Septiana Sihombing, M.Si., and Ummu Artha Tsary Rumalessin, M.Sc.—as well as four representatives from Polman Negeri Babel: Harwadi, M.Ed., Hendrik Ali, M.M., Lusi Olis Vera, M.M., and Lamia Eva Rini, MBA.

The delegation from Polman Negeri Babel—recognized as the leading vocational campus in Bangka Belitung—was welcomed personally by the Head of the OJK for Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Eko Wijaya, and his staff. They received presentations from OJK representative Patrick and the Deputy Head of the IDX Bangka Belitung Representative Office, Vincent.

Eko Wijaya delivered motivational remarks to the students, emphasizing the importance of building competence, integrity, and workplace readiness within the financial services sector. He also outlined various career paths available to university graduates, including opportunities for a career within the OJK itself.

In addition to the presentation on OJK materials, Patrick highlighted the importance of understanding the OJK's core duties and functions as the financial services sector regulator in Indonesia. He emphasized that students need education on financial planning from a young age, the dangers of online gambling and illegal online lending, and the complaint mechanisms available should the public fall victim to fraud or illegal financial activities," he explained.

Meanwhile, Vincent, the Deputy Head of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) Bangka Belitung Representative Office, presented material introducing the Indonesian capital market and the various investment products available. He also discussed prudent investment strategies for the younger generation and outlined the diverse professional opportunities within the capital market industry that could serve as career paths for Digital Business graduates," he stated.

When contacted on Tuesday (July 28, 2026), Lamia Eva Rini, MBA, noted that the initiative aims to enhance students' financial literacy by fostering an understanding of the duties, functions, and roles of the OJK and the IDX within the national financial system. It also seeks to equip students with knowledge regarding prudent financial management and capital market investment, while raising awareness about digital financial crimes such as online gambling, illegal online lending, and fraudulent investment schemes," she acknowledged.

The most crucial aspect is providing insights into career opportunities within the financial services and capital market sectors. This serves to help students build competencies aligned with industry needs while bridging classroom learning with practical application through direct interaction with industry practitioners—an implementation of experiential learning.

"Students from Polman Negeri Babel, in particular, must ensure they fully grasp the insights from this visit; they need to pay close attention so that their enthusiasm for learning and self-development grows, ultimately equipping them with the necessary competencies and opening up opportunities to join major companies," she emphasized.

Furthermore, Lamia hopes this visit will strengthen the synergy between the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic, the OJK, and the IDX in supporting the implementation of the 'Tri Dharma' (Three Pillars) of Higher Education—encompassing education, research, and community service—as well as internship programs and other academic activities that benefit both the students and the institution.
