Determination and Opportunity, Dedy Ramdhani's Journey Story on POD-M Podcast Polman Negeri Babel
In the latest episode of the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Babel) Podcast which aired on Tuesday (29/04/2025), an inspiring story was presented from one of the lecturers and alumni of the campus, Ir. Dedy Ramdhani Harahap, M.Sc.(Eng).
He shared his life journey that took him from studying at Polman Timah to earning a master's degree in Taiwan.
Dedy graduated with an Associate Degree in Mechanical Design Engineering from Polman Timah in 2005, before this institution transformed into Polman Babel. He revealed that from the beginning he had a big dream to continue his studies abroad, inspired by his lecturers who had studied abroad.
I chose to study at Polman Timah because I wanted to get a job quickly after graduating,” he said.
He added that another motivation came from the reality that many Polman Timah graduates were absorbed by leading industrial companies, even while still in college.
Dedy’s journey did not stop there. After completing his Masters studies at the Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (STUST) in 2017, he was trusted to become an Advisory Consultant in the INTACT BASE program, a study abroad preparation program that opens access for Indonesian students to study in Taiwan,” he added.
One of the advantages of the INTACT BASE program is the comprehensive provision for prospective students. “There, students are given free English and Mandarin language training. But no less importantly, they are also trained mentally, ethically, and how to adapt to a new environment,” he said.
Not only that, this program also provides various important facilities for free, ranging from plane tickets, visas, passports, diploma legalization fees, to living allowances for participants. All administrative needs are prepared so that students can focus on their studies.
Interestingly, studying in Taiwan through this program also opens up opportunities for direct internships at international companies. Students will undergo one year of college and one year of internship, with a monthly salary in return during the internship.
"If their performance is good, they can be directly recruited by companies through a two-year service bond," he said.
He said that many Indonesian students have proven to be able to show quality during the program.
For Dedy, studying abroad is not only about academic prestige, but also about seeing opportunities for the future. International education must be able to open up global career paths, as well as being a place for comprehensive self-development.
The story of Dedy Ramdhani Harahap proves that with the right determination and opportunity, anyone can realize their dream of studying and working abroad. Through this podcast, Polman Babel hopes to inspire more students to dare to face the world," concluded Dedy.
