Since its establishment in 1994, the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic has graduated many alumni, who are now spread across well-known companies in Indonesia, state-owned enterprises, local governments, ministries and not a few who have succeeded in building their own businesses. One of them, Rion Jaya Ginting, alumni of the Polman Babel in 2004, who successfully built a mold processing manufacturing business in the Jababeka II Industrial Area, Cikarang, West Java. The man who has a Diploma Three (D3) diploma in Mechanical Design Engineering from a Polman Babel graduate has managed to conquer the tough competition in business and industry in the industrial area with today's increasingly rapid technology. The story begins after graduating from college, he was immediately accepted to work for a Korean company in the Jababeka Cikarang industrial area for three years, then moved to a Japanese company in the field of plastics as a designer for three years with twice the salary as before. Now, Rion has succeeded in becoming the director and owner of the manufacturing company PT. Surya Maju Teknik located in Jababeka II Jatireja Cikarang with its main business being molds, dies, jig fixtures, CNC milling, surface grinding, welding and others related to molding manufacturing. Until now, Rion has been able to employ 25 employees at the manufacturing company and some of them are also younger graduates from the Babel State Police, besides that he has also provided a place for Babel State Police students to carry out internships. PT. Surya Maju Teknik was started by Rion since 2012 and until now has 20 business partners which are domestic and foreign companies. Rion told that he started his career as an employee as a designer or mechanical designer in a manufacturing company until he became a successful entrepreneur in the manufacturing sector. "My background is Mechanical Design Engineering or as a machine designer, design is really needed here, especially in the industrial world, both in electronics and machinery because design is the brain," said Rion when contacted via cell phone, Tuesday (07/03/2023) . Many people think that a design or mechanical designer has few job opportunities, but according to Rion that is a big mistake because both the automotive, electronics and manufacturing worlds need drawings, and the mechanical drawings are designed by a designer or designer. "Without a picture, how do you know the process of the manufacturing production system, because the key is from the existing drawings or designs," he said. He continued, the perception in society needs to be straightened out and not reversed, the concept is like the most important and necessary thing in industry or manufacturing, namely from mechanical, electrical parts but all of that needs drawings to design it. At the beginning of his career as a designer, or better known as a drafter, then he became a designer, that is, he could think for himself, draw for himself and decide for himself. Six years working with others in Korean and Japanese companies can train and improve his design skills in manufacturing. "When I worked for a Japanese company, I just found out that design is expensive, because after I moved to a Japanese company, my salary was double compared to the previous company," he said. "I feel grateful to have basic design because design is brilliant, it turns out that design has potential, it turns out that design has a good future" he continued. Even though he was well paid by a Japanese company, Rion, who had an entrepreneur mentality, finally tried to open his own business in the field of mechanical design services. In the beginning the business that was built was a mechanical design service and now the business has developed into a manufacturing company, not a design service anymore. PT. Surya Maju Teknik is now also progressing rapidly with a mold processing manufacturing business that has wire cutting, CNC milling, surface grinding, drilling, cylindrical and welding machines.
