The State Polytechnic of Babel Officially Launches an Applied Bachelor's Program in Digital Banking and Finance
The Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Babel) has once again demonstrated its commitment to meeting the challenges of modern development by launching a new Bachelor of Applied Digital Banking and Finance study program. This study program, under the Department of Informatics and Business, was introduced as part of strengthening vocational education based on industry needs.
The opening of this study program is considered highly relevant to the current situation, where almost all aspects of people's lives have been integrated with digital technology. The banking and financial sectors are also undergoing a massive transformation toward digital systems that require human resources with specialized competencies.
In today's digital era, financial services are no longer dependent on conventional systems. Banking transactions, payments, and financial management are now increasingly conducted through digital platforms, both through digital banks and the rapidly growing financial technology (fintech) services.
In response to this phenomenon, Polman Babel has taken a strategic step by introducing the Applied Digital Banking and Finance Undergraduate Study Program, designed with an application-based and practice-based approach. The curriculum is designed to equip students with technical and analytical competencies, as well as a deep understanding of digital financial systems.
When confirmed, the Head of the Applied Digital Banking and Finance Undergraduate Study Program Establishment Team, Ummu Artha Tsary Rumalessin, M.Sc., stated on Thursday (January 22, 2026) that the program's presence is a response to industry needs. "The Applied Digital Banking and Finance Undergraduate Study Program is here to meet the needs of the increasingly digitalized banking and finance industry and aligns with the competencies required in this field," she said.
She explained that, based on the results of tracer studies and workforce needs mapping, many workers in the banking and finance sector currently come from general study program backgrounds. This situation requires companies to provide additional training to ensure workers' competencies align with the positions they fill.
"This demonstrates a gap between industry needs and educational backgrounds. Through this study program, we aim to produce graduates who are specifically prepared for the digital banking and finance sector," he added.
The presence of the Applied Digital Banking and Finance Undergraduate Study Program at Polman Babel is expected to be a strategic choice for young people in Bangka Belitung and the surrounding area who want to pursue careers in the modern financial sector, while also supporting the industry's need for a professional, adaptable workforce ready to compete in the digital era," he explained.
