Boosting Graduate Competence: 87 Polman Negeri Babel Students Participate in OHS Supervisor Certification
The Director of the Bangka Belitung State Polytechnic (Polman Negeri Babel) and their team posed for a photo with representatives from the Palembang Regional Construction Services Center and final-year students participating in the Construction OHS Supervisor Training and Certification program.
While awaiting graduation, final-year students from the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Babel) are making productive use of their break by participating in a training and certification program for Construction Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Supervisors. The event is being held in the campus auditorium from August 26 to 28, 2026.
Eighty-seven students from Diploma III and Diploma IV study programs are participating in the three-day program, which is funded by the Construction Services Center (Balai Jasa Konstruksi) Region II Palembang.
During the opening ceremony, Polman Babel Director I Made Andik Setiawan, Ph.D., emphasized the importance of taking the training and certification seriously. He noted that competency certification provides added value for students as they complete their education and prepare for graduation.
He explained that an individual's skills need to be validated by external recognition, especially when those competencies are intended to support job applications.
"It is a matter of validation; if we claim someone possesses a skill, there must be external recognition—particularly when applying for jobs—because others will not trust a skill without certification and the demonstrated ability to assume responsibility," he clarified.
Furthermore, I Made urged the students not to treat the event as a mere formality but to engage earnestly throughout the training, which culminates in a competency assessment conducted by certified assessors.
“The assessment rests with the assessors. If you fail, you are the ones who lose out; attempting it again next year would simply be a waste of time,” he emphasized.
It is worth noting that the training and certification opportunities provided to students are free of charge; they should be utilized to the fullest to enhance the competence of Polman Babel graduates,” he added.
Additionally, the event included the presentation of a token of appreciation from Polman Babel to the Construction Services Center Region II Palembang, acknowledging their support and collaboration in conducting the training and certification program.
