More Exciting Than Theory, Applied Digital Business Students at Polman Negeri Babel Learn Through Podcasts
Students in the Applied Digital Business Bachelor's Program at the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Babel) continue to innovate in their learning. They participated in a podcast production practice in the campus presentation room as part of their Communication Design and Business course on Friday (October 3, 2025).
In this activity, each session consisted of teams of five students. They divided their roles professionally, from host or podcaster, director, cameraman, to operator. The learning atmosphere felt like a real content production.

The lecturer in charge of the course, Ummu Artha Tsary Rumalessin, M.Sc., assessed this practical method as very effective in honing students' skills. "It's like learning to swim; students have to actually get into the pool. It's not just about understanding the theory in digital business; students need to practice, not just the theory in class," she explained.
According to Ummu, this kind of practice not only trains technical skills but also hones students' creativity. They learn how to interpret client needs, brand themselves, promote their business on digital platforms, and develop effective visual communication strategies.
"Experiences like this will be more memorable for students than simply listening to theory. This learning process is more interactive and student-centered, with lecturers acting only as facilitators," she added.
She continued, "With the support of facilities and infrastructure to support learning activities like this, including the production of comprehensive digital content, students can more freely explore ideas and develop their creativity in line with current trends."

Therefore, Ummu expressed her gratitude to the Polman Babel Publication Team for facilitating the practical activities, providing additional experience for students as they learn directly from practitioners in the publication and media fields."
In addition to on-campus practice, Ummu plans to take students to practice podcast production outside the campus environment, including trying out a radio studio for a new experience. "So that students can experience a truly professional atmosphere," she said.
At the same location, one of the participating students, Dia Agustia Salsabila, admitted that this learning method makes practical learning much more exciting because they can learn the details of camera use, become a host, and even act as an operator. “It feels like really working in the creative industry,” he said.
