A Single Moment of Negligence Can Be Fatal, Students from the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic Attend a Session on Driving Safety
Over the weekend, students from the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Babel) attended a road safety awareness session featuring representatives from Jasa Raharja, the Traffic Unit (Satlantas) of the Bangka Police, and the Land Transportation Management Agency (BPTD) of Bangka Belitung. The event took place in the campus auditorium on Friday (October 30, 2026).
The students participated with enthusiasm, aiming to enhance their awareness of road safety while gaining a better understanding of traffic regulations and the risks associated with road accidents.
In his opening remarks, Somawardi, M.T., Head of the Academic, Student Affairs, and Cooperation Division at Polman Babel, urged students to be more mindful of their safety while on the road. He emphasized that road safety awareness begins with the basics: ensuring all vehicle documents are in order, obtaining a valid driver’s license (SIM), paying vehicle taxes, and strictly adhering to traffic laws when operating motorcycles or cars.
Somawardi highlighted that traffic accidents involving Polman Babel students occur every year—some even resulting in fatalities—and encouraged the students to pay close attention to the information presented by Jasa Raharja, the Bangka Police Traffic Unit, and the BPTD.
" Even if an accident is considered a matter of fate, that is no excuse to abandon caution. Safety must always remain a priority so that one does not become a victim of an accident," he advised.

Furthermore, the Person in Charge of the Sungailiat Samsat (Vehicle Registration Center), Moch. Ardi Fagumi, S.E., CRA., highlighted the significant risk of traffic accidents. Based on data from the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, the total compensation disbursed for accidents up to August 2026 has reached IDR 9.106 billion.
He went on to explain the duties and functions of Jasa Raharja, which are rooted in Law Number 33 of 1964 and Law Number 34 of 1964. These two foundational regulations govern the provision of compensation for accident victims, in accordance with the protection program for public transport passengers and victims of road traffic accidents.
" The compensation amounts provided are in line with current regulations: IDR 50 million for fatalities; IDR 4 million for burial expenses if the victim has no heirs; up to IDR 20 million for those who sustain injuries; and up to IDR 50 million for victims who suffer permanent disability," he stated firmly.
Additionally, he noted that certain types of accidents are not covered by Jasa Raharja’s compensation scheme—specifically those involving drivers under the influence of alcohol, criminal acts, attempted suicide, or other circumstances explicitly excluded under the terms of the coverage policy.

Equally important, Aiptu Dony Apriyandi from the Bangka Police Traffic Unit outlined the legal basis for traffic safety—as stipulated in Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Traffic and Road Transportation—urging students of Polman Babel to avoid any violations that could endanger their own safety or that of other road users.
" Some of the violations that must be avoided include failing to wear a helmet, driving under the influence of alcohol, exceeding speed limits, and carrying loads that exceed permitted limits," he stated.

Meanwhile, Wenni Sintya, S.Tr.Tra., a Land Transportation Supervisor for Bangka Belitung, encouraged all students to be law-abiding citizens. "Adhering to traffic regulations is not merely an obligation; it is a responsibility to ensure the safety of oneself and others," she said.
" Neglecting established safety rules while operating a motorcycle or car can lead to fatal consequences," she emphasized.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where students who provided correct answers received prizes from the organizers. The atmosphere became even more lively with a quiz that tested the students' speed and accuracy in answering questions related to driving safety.
