Babel State Polman Research Team Releases Educational Game
The Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Babel) research team succeeded in launching an innovative educational game called "Lom's Ethnic Journey". This game is specifically designed to increase students' interest in learning mathematics and physics subjects, as well as introducing local culture, Thursday (26/09/2024).
This research was led by Elisa Mayang Sari, M.Pd., lecturer in Mathematics Education, with support from Novitasari, M.Pd. (Physics Education) and Linda Fujiyanti, M.Ti. (Information Technology). The development process involved eight students from various study programs, including D-IV TRPL, D-IV TMM, and D-III Electronics Engineering, as well as lecturer Riki Afriansyah, M.T., who played a role in game and web development.
According to Elisa, this research began in April 2024 after successfully obtaining funding. "After going through a four-month development process, "Lom's Ethnic Journey" was officially released on the Google Play Store on September 25 2024. Scientific articles from this research are also being prepared for publication in the nationally accredited journal SINTA 3," he explained.
This game highlights the local wisdom of the Lom people in Mapur and Air Abik villages, with traditional music that enriches the atmosphere of the game. Apart from being a medium for learning mathematics and physics, this game also introduces local culture to students. Observation results show that students' interest in learning in these two courses is still low.
"Lom's Ethnic Journey is expected to be able to increase their attraction and interest in learning," added Elisa.
As many as 86% of respondents stated that the game is easy to use, with user-friendly features such as main menu, settings, instructions and developer information. This game is also equipped with a pretest and posttest to measure changes in learning interest before and after using the game.
This research is part of the Beginner Lecturer Research Program (PDP) which is supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture. Elisa said that the PDP scheme provides many benefits for novice lecturers in contributing through innovative research that involves cross-disciplinary collaboration.
"We hope that support from the Ministry of Education and Culture and institutions will continue, so that Lom's Ethnic Journey can develop more optimally and reach a wider audience," concluded Elisa.
"This game is the first step in increasing Polman Babel students' interest in learning towards mathematics and physics, as well as being a forum for collaboration that strengthens relationships between lecturers and students," he said.
