PEMALI-POLMANBABEL. Lecturer at the Bangka Belitung State Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman Babel) carried out community service activities, in the form of PhET training at UPTD SMP Negeri 1 Pemali, Saturday 26 August 2023.
As a collaborative collaboration between vocational higher education and junior high school, the training was successfully held with resource persons from Polman Babel lecturers.
The Head of UPTD SMPN 1 Pemali, Mrs. Asmara Dewi, S.Pd enthusiastically welcomed the PhET training from Polman Babel lecturers. She stated that the purpose of this training was to increase the capacity of Mathematics and Science teachers at UPTD SMP N 1 Pemali.
"This training provides a very good opportunity for our teachers by bringing resource persons directly to the school," said Asmara Dewi (26/08).
"So that our teachers can increase their capacity by direct practice," he continued.
This training was attended by 4 math tutors and 4 science tutors.
The Polman Babel lecturers who carried out the service included Elisa Mayang Sari, M.Pd and Novitas, M.Pd assisted by several students from the Manufacturing Design Engineering Study Program.
Elisa explained that this training was related to the use of PhET (Physics Education and Technology) simulation media as a medium that can be implemented by math and science teachers in classroom learning.
Technical training, starting with giving the participants an initial test (pretest) which is given in the form of a google form.
Next, the resource person gave the topic of using PhET simulation learning media in Mathematics.
"Based on the questions and answers conducted by us and the results of the initial tests, most teachers do not know anything about PhET," said Elisa.
Then, Elisa continued the material by explaining the history of PhET, the benefits of PhET, and the use of simulations for mathematics.
"We were also assisted by students in this training, namely students of mechanical engineering from the manufacturing design engineering study program who guided each teacher one by one in operating PhET using a laptop or gadget," he continued.
Apart from the use of PhET for mathematics, the use of PhET can also be used for science lessons, the presentation of the material was presented by Novitasari.
The learning method for using PhET in science lessons can be used by teachers with demonstration and practicum methods.
"PhET can be accessed both online and offline, but teachers must download it first if they want to use PhET offline," Novi said in his presentation of the material.
The training activities are closed with a posttest and survey. Apart from that, of course there will be follow-up in the form of giving participants independent assignments equivalent to 6 JP, with the hope that participants can explore further related to the PhET simulation.
