Service Program Lecturer Initiative, for Vocational School Student Skills Development
Polman Babel - A number of lecturers held community service activities (PKM) which aimed to introduce and improve the skills and knowledge of Vocational High School (SMK) students in the field of design. This activity lasted for one day, in the Mechanical Design Lab Building, Monday (29/07/2024).
Lecturers involved in this activity include, Herwandi., M.T. Adhe Angry. M.T., Yang Fitri Arriyani. M.T., Shanty Dwi Krishnaningsih., M. Hum. Indra Feriadi., M.T. and Muhamad Riva'i., M.T.
This activity, which was attended by 1o class XII students majoring in Light Vehicle Engineering (TKR), included various training sessions and presentations guided by lecturers from the Mechanical Engineering department. The material provided includes the basics of engineering design, the use of modern design software such as Design Methods, Inventor, and 3D Printing, as well as direct practice related to design techniques.
Herwandi., M.T. one of the lecturers involved in this activity, stated that the main aim of this activity is to equip students with knowledge and skills that are relevant to today's industry.
"We hope that through this activity, vocational school students can better understand the importance of engineering design and its practical application in the world of work. "We also want to inspire them to continue their studies to a higher level in the engineering field," he said.
Apart from technical training, this activity is also equipped with motivational sessions and provision of soft skills such as teamwork, communication and time management. Students are also given the opportunity to consult directly with lecturers regarding career prospects and opportunities to continue their education at university.
One of the students who took part in this activity, Aditya, expressed his gratitude to the lecturers and committee. “We are very happy with this activity because we understand more about the design department and how to use software that we did not know before. "This is very useful for our preparation for the world of work," said Aditya.
It is hoped that community service activities (PKM) like this can continue and become a bridge between the world of education and industry, as well as having a positive impact on students who will become the nation's next generation.
